NEW [SDG 10] UN SDG and Student Organizations [ Clubs ]
As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, college campuses, which were supposed to be bustling with activity in September, are quiet. With most regular lectures being delivered online, the nostalgia of sitting around the campus square and chatting with classmates and classmates is a thing of the past.
In the midst of these difficult times, student organizations are also trying to make new changes. Clubs, a representative student self-governance activity, have switched to online club fairs, which used to be held around the start of the school year, and club-specific activities are also organizing 'separate and together' activities via ontact.
Kookmin University has taken on the challenge of applying the UN SDGs (UN Stable Development Goals) to the campus with the Clubs Association to revitalize student self-governance activities in preparation for a new era of change.
The UN SDGs are the global sustainable development goals that the UN General Assembly resolved to implement by 2030 in 2015. They are categorized into five areas - people, planet, prosperity, peace, and partnership - and set out 17 specific goals for humanity to work toward. The 17 goals are as follows
Kookmin University's club association 'Plus' and the student support team agreed and tried to connect student activities with the UN SDGs, and 67 clubs selected UN SDG goals that fit the nature of their activities.
Through this endeavor, it is expected that student self-governance activities in the post-COVID-19 era will expand beyond the campus and into the future society as a whole. The SDGs achieved through student activities are expected to show that sustainable development is not difficult, but can be achieved in our daily lives, and will be an opportunity to spread good influence in our society.
